Obtaining Management Support

Senior management support is vital

Evidence of commitment and ongoing involvement of senior management is critical to the success of a workplace health programme. This support (human resources, financial) is essential for the processes and development of the programme. Employees need to see senior managers "walking the talk" and that their employer is serious in committing to creating a healthy workplace.

One way this could be demonstrated is by having a “launch” of the programme with a healthy morning tea or lunch, and a presentation to the staff about the programme.

Success and sustainability of a workplace health programme is dependent on management support and workplace health promotion strategies should be incorporated into the company’s business plan with adequate resources attached to them.
